Karabournaki at the 37th Scientific Meeting on Archaeological Work in Macedonia and Thrace

For the thirty-seventh time, the scientific meeting on the archaeological work in Macedonia and Thrace will be held, with 60 announcements and 13 poster presentations on the research being carried out in the northern Greek area, from Evros to Kastoria.

The excavation at Karabournaki will participate with the presentation “30 years of university excavation at Karabournaki: documentation, management and promotion of the ancient settlement.”

The meeting will take place at the Center for the Dissemination of Research Results (KEDEA) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Amphitheater II (University Campus, 3rd September Street / METRO stop: Panepistimio).

On Saturday, October 5, the Association of Katirliotes of Kalamaria organized the event “Former Kodra military camp: past, present, future”. The event was attended by Eleni Manakidou, Professor of Classical Archeology at the University of Athens. and Despoina Tsiafaki, Doctor of Classical Archeology and Research Director of the Athena Research Center, who participated with a lecture entitled: “The ancient settlement at Karabournaki: revealing the past through three decades of archaeological research by the AUTH”

Lecture “The university excavation of the Department of Archaeology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Karabournaki”

On Monday, May 20, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., a lecture by Eleni Manakidou, Professor of Classical Archeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki will be held in the amphitheater of the Ancient Agora Museum. and Despoina Tsiafaki, Doctor of Classical Archeology and Director of Research at the “Athina” Research Center, titled “The university excavation of the Department of Archaeology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. in Karabournaki”.
The event is part of the Lecture Series of the Ephorate of Antiquities of the City of Thessaloniki with the theme “Thessaloniki. Glimpses of History and its Monuments”. The aim of the program is to inform the public scientifically and thoroughly about the history and monuments of the city, but also to establish a stable and direct communication with the people who are interested in enriching their knowledge about the cultural heritage of Thessaloniki. In the series of Lectures, the scientific staff of EFAPOTH present the results of their research and collaborators of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki present excavation investigations in sites of competence of our Ephorate. In the context of the 36th scientific meeting on the archaeological work in Macedonia and Thrace, on Friday 29 March 2024 at 9.45 a.m., in the ceremony hall of the old building of the Faculty of Philosophy of AUTH, the presentation entitled “Karabournaki 2023: issues of protection and promotion of the ancient settlement” will be given by Mrs. E. The co-directors of the Karabournaki excavation, Dr. Eleni Manakidou, professor of Classical Archaeology in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Dr. Despoina Tsiafaki, director of research of the “Athena” RC will give a lecture titled “Views of commerce and production in Karabournaki” on Saturday, June 5th, 11.30 a.m. The lecture is part of a 3-day event presenting the research work of the Department of History and Archaeology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
